- Have you noticed your metabolism is just not as good as it used to be?
- Is your skin loosing that youthful glow?
- Does it take you longer to recover after a big weekend or back-to-back late nights?
- Are there parts of your body where gravity has taken its toll?
- Do aches and pains rear its ugly head in places you least expect?
Yup! Me too!
Like an apple slice that turns brown when exposed to the environment, your body goes through the same thing over time. That’s why as you get older your health plummets downhill and unsightly wrinkles and fine lines move-in like an unwelcome roommate.
Environmental stressors play a HUGE role in how quickly you age, and this is commonly known as:
THE FREE RADICAL PROBLEM
Every day you are exposed to free radicals – unstable molecules that attack your healthy cells and it can mutate your genetic code, leading to a whole slew of other health problems.
You are bombarded by them in your environment:
AND they are produced inside your body during exercise and from normal metabolism.
Everyday, you get hit by roughly 60 TRILLION free radicals, and no matter how healthy you try to be there is just no way of avoiding them and they eventually take a toll on your body. Sorry to burst your bubble, but the fountain of youth doesn’t exist.
Unfortunately that’s the sad reality of aging. Although there is nothing you can do to stop it, there are certainly things you can do to s-l-o-o-o-w it down.
NATURE’S SOLUTION
Antioxidants are your first defence against free radicals. Similar to how putting lemon juice on the apple slice can prevent it from oxidizing, antioxidants offer your body that same protection.
Your body naturally generates some antioxidants, and having a healthy lifestyle such as staying active, fuelling your body with nutritious foods, and getting enough Z’s can help. Research also shows that additional sources of antioxidants in the form of supplements can also provide added protection.
BUT DOES YOUR SUPPLEMENT WORK?
Did you know that not all vitamin supplements are created equal? Most supplements you buy at your local health food store/drug store are considered food grade and that means that they may or may not use good manufacturing practices (GMP) and may or may not contain what is actually listed on the label.
Watch this short video to learn an easy way to test whether your multivitamin supplement is protecting your body. Then check out my post on How To Choose the Best Supplements For You.
Give this Ultimate Vitamin Test a go with your supplements at home and see what happens. Feel free to email me if you want to find out more about the vitamins I take or if you have questions about supplements in general because I hate seeing you waste your money on things that don’t work! I’ve wasted my fair share of time, money and energy over the years…and I don’t want you to make the same mistakes I did.
I’d also love to hear the results of your experiment, so don’t forget to leave me a comment below.
Love this experiment! Good job Cherrie!
Greetings from Montréal!
Sandra 🙂
Merci Sandra 🙂
How did your experiment go?
Very interesting!
Hi ! cool, I would love to try the experiment, where did you buy the chorine, is it naturally yellow?
Hi Cydney,
The chlorine indicator drops are called Orthotolidine (OTO) and it’s usually used to test chlorine levels in pools. It’s a clear solution but when added to liquid with chlorine it will turn yellow. The more chlorine that is in the liquid, the more yellow your solution will get. I bought the indicator drops at Rona (http://www.rona.ca/en/refill-for-pool-test-kit), but Canadian Tire/Home Depot should sell them as well. Let me know how your experiment goes.
